Here’s a look at today’s top stories…
Senator-elect Scott Brown is due to be sworn in tonight. He is taking the seat of the late Sen. Edward Kennedy from Massachusetts. Brown’s election upset last month, earned the GOP a crucial spot in the Senate, stripping Democrats of their filibuster-proof majority.
The U.S. government is opening an investigation into complaints about Toyota’s 2010 Hybrid Prius. Some consumers are reporting problems with their brakes after hitting potholes or bumps in the road. Toyota has been plagued by recalls for various models in the past month. It’s not clear if the new investigation will result in another recall.
The East Coast is bracing for a major storm that could dump up to two feet of snow in some areas. Mid-Atlantic cities like Baltimore, Philadelphia and Washington D.C. are expected to bear the brunt of the bad weather. New York, New Jersey, Delaware and states as far west as Indiana, are also expected to get some accumulation.
A real-estate tycoon in Ireland has found a piece of property that people are literally dying to get in to: a cemetery. Bernard McNamara says he lost a lot of money after the construction business went bust. Now he hopes to turn his billions of dollars in losses into profits by building the most permanent of residences.
