More Troops

NATO is standing behind President Obama’s plan to send 30,000 troops to Afghanistan. In fact, the organization is planning to send an additional 5,000 troops itself. NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen says he’s confident that other allies will increase their troop commitment as well.

In addition to ordering more troops, President Obama simultaneously announced his plan to withdraw soldiers from Afghanistan starting in July 2011, a move that has some Senators upset. Former rival Sen. John McCain says he fears setting an end date will allow the Taliban to “wait out” American forces.

Shake Up

GM CEO Fritz Henderson is out of a job. Henderson resigned yesterday after the board of directors asked him to step down. While the automaker looks for a new CEO, Chairman of the Board Ed Whitacre will take over the reigns.
