Here’s a look at today’s top stories…
250 activists were arrested outside of the UN climate talks in Copenhagen. A group called Climate Justice Action rallied 3,000 people to march on the talks. CJA wanted to turn the closed talks into a “People’s Assembly” for climate change. The group says the UN’s meetings are “elitist” and don’t present any real solutions.
The Federal Trade Commission is filing a lawsuit against computer chip maker Intel. The FTC says Intel’s practices violate anti-trust laws and accuses the company of a “deliberate campaign to hamstring” its competition. Shares of Intel fell on the news; meanwhile, shares for its competitors Advanced Micro Devices and Nvidia Corp are up.
It’s a Bird…No, It’s a Boeing!
After 3 years of delays Boeing is test flying its new 787 plane. The jet is made out of composite materials, making it lighter and more fuel efficient. It can also seat up to 300 people, has bigger windows, more luggage and cargo room, and will cost less to operate. The company is calling it a “game changer.” However, the 787 will have to go through extensive testing before it’s available for commercial flights.
An Iranian film maker didn’t let government restrictions stop her from making a documentary about Tehran: she used her cell phone camera. Sepideh Farsi taped interviews for a month with different people using only her cell phone to capture a portrait of the city.
