The Center for Public Integrity says colleges aren’t doing enough to help rape victims on campus. According to the latest data, 1 in 5 women will be raped or experience an attempted rape before graduation. Experts say improving resources for victims is key and suggest establishing offices on campuses that can provide therapy, legal advice and address health concerns.
Some detainees from Guantanamo Bay will be transferred to a maximum security prison in Illinois. As many as 100 inmates could be moved to the Thomson Correctional Center, just west of Chicago. They would be housed in a special wing of the prison under the jurisdiction of the Defense Department. The move could create 2,000 jobs and bring $1 billion in federal money to the area.
The new CEO of GM says that the company wants to repay its loans from the U.S. & Canadian governments by June. The struggling automaker received $50 billion in bailout money, $6.7 billion of which was from the U.S. government.
50,000 people are being evacuated from the areas around Myon, the Philippine’s most active volcano. Lava has already begun to flow down the mountain. Scientists say a full scale eruption could happen in weeks or days.
