The Supreme Court struck down a lawsuit filed by former Guantanamo Bay detainees against former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and other top military officials. The lawsuit alleged that the detainees were tortured and their religious rights violated. The Supreme Court agreed with a lower appeals court that the accused officials are entitled to immunity.
A secret document detailing Iran’s work on nuclear weapons has surfaced. The document was reportedly written in 2007. That same year, the U.S. had concluded that Iran stopped weapons production in 2003. Officials are working to confirm the date and accuracy of the document.
Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi is recovering in the hospital after being struck in the face by a replica of Milan’s cathedral. Berlusconi was visiting Milan when he was attacked with the statue, fracturing his nose and breaking his teeth. The suspect, Massimo Tartaglia, has a history of mental illness according to police.
Urban planners are looking to Denmark for what’s being called “Copenhagenisaton.” Copenhagen is known for being a bike friendly city. In fact when it snows, bicycle lanes are plowed before car lanes. Officials from other countries want to boost bike riding in their own cities.
