Searching for Meaning

Texas authorities are searching the home of the soldier accused of going on a shooting rampage yesterday at Fort Hood. They’re looking for clues that may explain the attack that left 13 dead and 30 others wounded. The suspect, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, was shot before being captured and is in stable condition. An army psychiatrist, Hasan was scheduled to be deployed to the Middle East.

Taliban Attacked

The Pakistani military is going on the offensive against the Taliban. Soldiers entered Taliban headquarters this morning in South Waziristan, along the Afghan boarder. The military strike is in response to a wave of violence carried out by Taliban suicide bombers targeting Pakistani cities in the past weeks.

Record High for Unemployment

A dismal job report is out today. For the first time since 1983 the unemployment rate has jumped to 10.2%. Analysts had expected an increase from 9.8% in September to 9.9% in October. Just yesterday Congress voted to extend unemployment benefits. President Obama is expected to sign the bill into law today.

Bathroom Break

The job market is in the toilet, literally. Charmin is looking for 5 “bathroom ambassadors” who will greet…um customers… at public toilets set up by the company in New York City’s Time Square. For six weeks of work the ambassadors will receive $10,000.
