Here’s a look at today’s top stories…
The parents of a missing Virginia Tech student are asking volunteers to help search for her this weekend. Morgan Harrington disappeared last month at a Metallica concert in Charlottesville. There is a $150,000 reward for information leading to her whereabouts, $50,000 of which has been donated by Metallica.
The United Nations is removing 600 hundred of its 1,100 international staff from Afghanistan. This comes a week after 5 UN workers were killed during a suicide bombing in Kabul. This could present a problem for President Obama whose war strategy relies on civilian aid and troops.
More Time for Benefits, Tax Credits
Both the Senate and the House passed legislation extending unemployment benefits. Some workers would be eligible to receive benefits for an additional 20 weeks. The bill also extends the deadline for an $8,000 first time homebuyer tax credit, which was scheduled to expire by the end of this month. President Obama is expected to sing the bill into law tomorrow morning.
Let’s Review What Constitutes an Emergency
A Tennessee woman was arrested for making non-emergency calls to 911. What was the non-emergency? Her boyfriend said he wouldn’t marry her. The week before the same woman called 911 because she couldn’t find her car.
