Statewide Protest

Students across California staged mass protests as the state university system voted to increase tuition by 32%. At UC-Davis 52 students were arrested. At UCLA hundreds of students walked out of class and staged a sit in to try to stop regents members from leaving campus after the vote.

Blame Shifting

Americans aren’t holding Republicans solely accountable for the economic recession anymore. A new poll says that only 38% of Americans say the GOP is to blame. That’s down from 53% last May. 27% of pollsters now say both parties are to blame

Smoking Still Isn’t Worth It

Cigarette maker Phillip Morris was ordered by a Florida jury to pay an ex-smoker $300 million. Cindy Naugle is in a wheelchair and suffering from emphysema. The court awarded her $56.6 million for her medical expenses as a result of smoking and $244 million in punitive damages against the company.

Carrots, Anyone?

Shocking nutrition news: you may not realize it, but consuming a medium popcorn and a soda at the movies is the equivalent of eating 3 McDonald’s quarter-pounders topped with 12 tablespoons of butter! A report from the Center for Science and Public Interest found that the popular combo contains a whooping 1,500 calories and THREE DAYS worth of saturated fat.
