Civilian Court for 9/11 Detainees
Five suspects with alleged ties to the 9/11 attacks will be transferred from Guantanamo Bay to New York City for their trial. The suspects include Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the confessed mastermind of the plot. The move is controversial. Some say it will allow the families of 9/11 victims to see justice served. Others, however, say the trial could make New York a target for terrorist attacks yet again.
The CDC says the H1N1 pandemic is unprecedented. Since April, almost 4,000 people have died from the virus. Children account for 540 of those deaths. That’s more than 6 times the average of 82 children during a “normal” flu season.
The CEO of JPMorgan says the notion of “too big to fail” is politically, economically and ethically bankrupt. “Global economic growth requires the services of big financial firms. It also requires that big financial firms be allowed to fail.” The trick, according to CEO Jamie Dimon, is that firms need to fail in a way that won’t put taxpayers and the economy at risk. Huh?
A central Texas woman is in custody after scamming her community out of $10,000. Trista Joy Lathern held a benefit to raise money for her breast cancer treatment. The catch… Lathern never had breast cancer; she simply wanted the money for a boob job.
