Here’s a look at today’s top stories…
A car bomb killed at least 100 people and wounded 200 others in a crowded marketplace in Peshawar, Pakistan. The bombing coincides with a visit from Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. A government spokesman says it’s the deadliest attack to hit the city yet in the current wave of Taliban and al Qaeda violence.
Two Chicago men are under arrest after allegedly plotting to attack a Danish newspaper. David Headley said he was “disposed towards violence” after the paper published controversial cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed in 2005. Since that time, Headley reportedly traveled to Pakistan where he trained with a militant group. His alleged co-conspirator was also arrested.
GMAC, the financing arm of General Motors and Chrysler, is seeking a third bailout from the Treasury. According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, GMAC could receive as much as $5.6 billion. The company has already received $13.4 billion from the government since December 2008.
Okay, maybe it’s kind of morbid, but just in case you were wondering, here’s what happens to your Facebook account when you die. The site will “memorialize” your profile, allowing users to pay their respects on your wall. All other features of your page will be sealed, and you won’t show up in search results. Go figure.
