Hope everyone enjoyed their Memorial Day, now it’s back to work! Here’s a look at today’s headlines…

From One Supreme Court…

President Obama is nominating federal Judge Sonia Sotomayor for the Supreme Court. If she’s confirmed by the Senate, she would be the first Hispanic on the bench.

…To Another.

The California State Supreme Court is upholding Proposition 8, the controversial ban on gay marriage. However, the court is also upholding the validity of nearly 18,000 same-sex marriages performed before the proposition was enacted last fall.

North Korea Continues Tests

The United Nations is condemning North Korea for conducting two missiles tests today. The launches come just one day after the country conducted a nuclear test said to be as powerful as the nuclear bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II.

Where Should Gitmo Go?

The city of Hardin, Montana has a message for President Obama: Send Gitmo detainees here! Hardin has an empty state-of-the-art prison. City officials say it could house inmates if Guantanamo Bay closes. The city hopes that opening up the prison would bring jobs to the community.
