DC indie band Bellman Barker has been getting some nice writeups on the blogs recently. But the night I met them, something impressed me even more than their music.

The interview took place at a Brooklyn BBQ joint, Fette Sau. And after we were done talking, the boys proceeded to eat a small farm’s worth of meat. A truly impressive – nay, alarming – amount of meat. Ribs, pulled pork, brisket, etc. I ate about half as much as they did, and afterwards I wanted to fall asleep in the corner.

They, on the other hand, were ready to play an amazing set.

So let me say this: any band that can drive six hours, eat that much meat, and then rock that hard… well, they are a special band.

PS: According to Bellman Barker’s website, they’re coming back to New York on August 1. I’m going to start fasting immediately to get ready.
