I like pickup lines. Approaching a stranger is going to be awkward no matter what, so you might as well make it interesting.

I used to walk up to women and say, “Excuse me. I bet I can guess your birthday.” That almost always started a conversation – no one’s going to NOT let you guess. Then you take it slow – guess the season first. Then the month. Claim you can tell by the arch of her eyebrows, or what she’s drinking. Finally, pick an exact date, and act confident. I never, ever, guessed correctly – but I still believe that someday I will, and how cool will THAT be?
